Dr. Michael B. Collins is a Research Associate of the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin.  He has specialized in the study of lithic technology and worked with prehistoric collections from North, Central, and South America, as well as the Near East and southwestern Europe.  Dr. Collins received his Ph.D. from the University of Arizona.  Recently he collaborated on the lithics research for the site of Monte Verde, Chile and published Clovis Blade Technology (UT Press).

His interest, research, and publications in Paleo-Indian sites and culture are extensive.  He is currently active in research of the earliest part of the American archaeological record.  The recent formation of the Gault School of Archaeological Research and purchase of the Gault Site will provide educational and research opportunities to examine the peopling of the Americas.  In addressing the Public Forum of the Texas Archeological Society’s Annual Meeting, Dr. Collins will focus on the growing evidence of a pre-Clovis culture in the Americas.  His presentation is titled “Gault Site Texas and the Quest for the First Americans.”  We are very pleased to have Dr. Collins as our guest.  Come early to hear about the latest research!
