Annual Meeting 2008

Welcome to Lubbock for the
79th Texas Archeological Society Annual Meeting

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Lubbock Local Arrangements Committee members are concerned that potential Annual Meeting speakers have been involved with getting back into school activities and preparations for the Labor Day holiday and may need a little extra time to get their abstracts to the Program Committee.  They are therefore extending the deadline for paper abstracts through this Friday, September 5 (maybe they'll be further gracious and include the weekend).

For the 79th Annual Texas Archeological Society Annual Meeting

Holiday Inn Park Plaza Hotel, Lubbock, Texas, October 24–26, 2008

The Annual Meeting is returning to Lubbock in 2008, and in some ways the TAS is coming home.  Many of the pioneers of Texas Archeology and founders of the TAS got their starts in the Southern Plains!  This is the final call soliciting presentations.  All members are invited to submit abstracts of papers, symposia, and poster displays to be presented at the Annual Meeting. Authors will be notified in September if their paper has been accepted (please note the deadlines provided below).  All presentation rooms will be equipped with data projectors and laptop computers for PowerPoint presentations.  Presenters requiring a slide projector or overheard projector must make a special request of the Program Chair.  Submit all abstracts as files attached to email (preferred), or by regular mail on diskette or in typed form.  For email attachments or diskette submissions, include a text (.txt) file in addition to the word processor file; text files may be created by using the Save As command and selecting the text file type.

According to current TAS policy, all presenters must be TAS members. Papers will be allotted 15 minutes, a limit that will be strictly enforced.  Because simultaneous sessions will be held, the program schedule will be adhered to so that TAS members can move from room to room to catch talks of interest.

Individual Papers – Titles and Abstracts are due by September 1, 2008.

Symposia – Titles and Abstracts are due by August 15, 2008.
Symposia may be organized around any topic, area, major project, and/or time period.  Each symposium will be allotted two hours per five presenters, with a five-presenter minimum.  Due to scheduling concerns, symposium organizers must ensure that all abstracts for symposia and symposium papers meet the above earlier deadline.  For effective presentation of symposia, organizers may specify the order of papers and their length, as long as these points are stated in the symposium abstracts.

Poster Presentations – Titles and Abstracts are due by September 1, 2008.
Poster presentations can effectively convey visual, graphic, and quantitative information, and posters reach a larger audience than oral papers.  Members are encouraged to consider poster presentations as an alternative to papers.  Poster abstracts must be received by the September 1 deadline to appear in the program; late poster entries may be accommodated after consultation with the Program Chair and Annual Meeting organizers.

Other presentation formats such as discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops may be held on approval of the Program Chair and Annual Meeting organizers.  As noted above, meeting rooms will be equipped with a laptop computer and projector with remote control; additional audiovisual needs may be accommodated given prior notice.  Contact the Program Chair with questions about submission dates, formats, and/or equipment.  We look forward to your contributions to this meeting.

Abstracts must include the following information to be considered:
Type of submission (Paper/Symposium/Poster);
Title;
Authors and Affiliations (with contact Phone numbers and emails); and
Abstract (150 words maximum; longer abstracts will be rejected or returned for correction).

Abstracts should be submitted to the Program Chair, Dr. Tamra Walter, via email to papers@txarch.org or send to:
