Teacher Workshops 2011The following is the schedule for teacher workshops at the 2011 TAS Field School in Hondo. Friday, June 10th, 8:00 PM: Meet with Robin Matthews, Education Committee Chairman, at the outdoor stage (the afternoon workshops are also planned to be at the outdoor stage) to receive your packet containing activities, crossword puzzles, handouts, etc., and CPE information. BONUS: a yummy dessert, thanks to Ann Matthews. There will be a Q and A about using archeology in the classroom and information on other workshops. A short slide show will be presented by Gary McKee (you will get a copy) and – there may be an additional surprise! Teachers only. Saturday, June 11th, 3:00 - 4:00 PM: "Making Fire the Old-Fashioned Way." Neal Stilley will show you how to demonstrate safely the Friction Fire-Starting method in the classroom (or outdoors). Teachers will get a chance to try to make their own fire! This workshop will be video-taped, and you will receive a copy to show your classes. All materials will be provided and safety is rule number one!!! Teachers only. Monday, June 13th, 3:00 - 4:00 PM: "Drawing a Story." Robin Matthews will involve you in a hands-on group activity that you can take directly to the classroom. If time permits, you will also be introduced to an ancient weapon of mass destruction...and practice using it – the atlatl!! Teachers only. Wednesday, June 15th, 3:00 - 4:00 PM: "Passionate about the Past." Ann Lang will lead a hands-on activity about identifying artifacts. Handouts provided. A second activity will be the atlatl contest...with prizes for the winners! Teachers only. |
