Rock Art Task Force

2004 Session to Paint Rock

The Paint Rock site contains a very interesting series of panels of rock art. There is evidence of many cultures' visits here.  The rock art is painted on a limestone bluff on the north terrace of the Concho River.  A low water crossing located in the area and a large grove of pecan and oak trees on the flood plain of the Concho made this a very inviting place to rest.  The limestone bluff was an ideal place to leave your sign or your group's sign -- or to paint an episode of events that occurred during your travel to this place.  Some of the journals of travelers that stopped at Paint Rock also mention buffalo crossing the Concho River at this location.
