Who We Are
The Texas Archeological Society welcomes you to the web site where you can learn
more about archeology around the state and how to actively participate in
preserving your heritage.
The Texas Archeological Society is dedicated to the study and preservation of
the historic and prehistoric aspects of Texas' past.

TAS activities include Archeological Academies, a yearly Field School, an
Annual Meeting, a Speakers' Bureau, and rock art recording.

TAS has recently been awarded a $6,000 grant from the Texas Historical Foundation for analysis of materials from our 2005 and 2006 Field Schools at the Gene and Ruth Ann Stallings site near Paris. The funds will be used to secure detailed analyses of the plant and animal remains as well as additional radiocarbon dating. Our thanks to the

Upcoming TAS Events
Rock Art Recorders Return to Big Bend
TAS rock art recorders are planning an end-of-the-year visit to the
Indian Head site near Study Butte, Big Bend National Park. This is a
follow up to a visit last March and promises to be a memorable
excursion. For more information, check out the

TAS Archeology Academies Courses for 2009 Ready for Registration
The popular short courses offered by TAS in January - March are now
open for 2009 enrollment. Three sessions are planned, two of them new
offerings. The schedule is:
Archeology 101 in Georgetown, January 30, 31, and February 1;
registration deadline January 16
Big Bend in Context in Study Butte, February 20, 21, 22; registration
deadline February 6
Historical Archeology in Lake Jackson, March 7, 8; registration
deadline February 20

As funding allows, scholarships will be offered by the Collegiate and
